Position Description
Christ Church Episcopal School (CCES) seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Interim Lower School Counselor. The Lower School Counselor works closely with Lower School Administration, the Lower School Wellness Team, and the School Counseling team to support the social-emotional development and overall well-being of students. This role is integral to fostering a positive learning environment and building strong, supportive relationships with students, families, and faculty.
The Counselor supports and enhances the educational experience through the delivery of developmentally appropriate classroom lessons aligned with school-wide social-emotional learning goals. These lessons are both proactive and responsive to emerging student needs. In addition, the Counselor provides small group and individual support as appropriate to promote student growth and well-being.
General Responsibilities
- Deliver regular, developmentally appropriate social-emotional learning lessons in all Lower School classrooms
- Provide targeted small group support within and beyond the classroom setting
- Offer individual and group counseling to students with identified needs
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop and implement student support plans
- Actively participate on the wellness team to support overall student wellbeing
- Administer and interpret assessments to inform student support strategies
- Coordinate referrals and serve as a liaison with outside professionals and service providers
- Plan and facilitate parent and family education opportunities
- Communicate effectively and regularly with colleagues, students, and families
- Maintain appropriate and detailed records
- Support school-wide response efforts in times of crisis
- Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning through active participation in professional development
Perform other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school’s policies, procedures, and practices

Desire to engage in the life and culture of the school, including community events, after-school activities, and programs such as clubs, performing groups, or athletic teams

Education and/or Experience
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field required
- Minimum of three years of experience working with students in a school setting; independent school experience preferred
Demonstrated clinical counseling experience with elementary-aged students

- This is a 10-month, interim position (August–May) for the 2026–2027 school year, designed to support students while the School further develops and defines the long-term vision for its counseling program.
