Duties
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs and physical examinations, to determine immediate needs and ongoing care requirements.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and other treatments following established protocols and safety standards.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheterization, wound suturing, specimen collection, and sterile processing.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or Athenahealth to ensure compliance with HIPAA and long-term care regulations.
- Provide specialized care for patients with complex needs such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, memory care, or those requiring hospice or palliative support.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, and diagnostic evaluations to optimize patient outcomes.
- Support emergency response efforts by managing airway management, ventilator use, or acute pain management when necessary.
Requirements
- Valid Maine Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or equivalent certification in good standing.
- Proven experience in diverse healthcare settings such as hospitals (including ICU or Level I Trauma Center), nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, or home & community care environments.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; familiarity with ICD-9/10 coding is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medication administration protocols, and infection control practices.
- Experience working with geriatric patients or individuals with disabilities; familiarity with dementia care and memory support is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform physical assessments accurately while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies under HIPAA standards.
- Excellent communication skills for triage situations and patient education; ability to work independently and as part of a team in multiple locations across Maine.
