About the Role
Sutherland & KC Presses is seeking an experienced industrial service professional to join our team as Director of Service. This is a leadership role designed for someone with strong hands-on experience in metal stamping or industrial press equipment who is ready to step up from primarily technical work into true team leadership and operational ownership.
You will lead and remotely manage our field service technicians and subcontractors while owning scheduling, logistics, parts operations, customer communication, and proactive business development. The role is based at our new Educational & R&D Showroom in Ventura, featuring live presses under power for training and demonstrations.
This position is ideal for a seasoned press technician, maintenance lead, or service coordinator with direct experience on mechanical, hydraulic, or servo stamping presses who wants to move into a Director-level role with remote team management and administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Remote Team Management
- Lead, mentor, schedule, and develop a team of field service technicians and subcontractors
- Manage remote dispatching, travel logistics, workload balancing, performance, and professional development
- Serve as the central point of contact for all service-related communication and customer satisfaction
Administrative & Operational Ownership
- Own full-cycle service parts operations including quoting, sales orders, purchase orders, RFQs, logistics, and inventory management
- Generate weekly service calendars, incident reports, and monthly performance reports for leadership
- Maintain CRM and service documentation systems and drive continuous improvement in processes and metrics
Business Development & Growth
- Act as Lead Scout by proactively identifying opportunities for new press projects, I-PRESS control retrofits, upgrades, and long-term support contracts
- Drive service revenue through retrofits, parts sales, and expanded preventive maintenance programs
Project & Showroom Support
- Provide project management support for new press builds, installations, and start-ups
- Utilize the showroom’s live press equipment for technician training and high-level customer demonstrations
Qualifications
Required:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in industrial equipment service or maintenance, with substantial direct experience on mechanical, hydraulic, or servo stamping presses or equivalent metal forming equipment
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating technicians or service teams (formal or informal leadership experience accepted)
- Strong administrative and operational skills, including scheduling, parts/inventory management, CRM usage, and reporting
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused
Preferred:
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Spanish language skills
- Experience with control retrofits or preventive maintenance programs
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work full-time on-site at our Ventura showroom
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed for occasional field support
