Duties
- Assist lead painters with surface preparation including sanding, scraping, and cleaning surfaces for painting or finishing.
- Mix paints and materials according to project specifications, ensuring proper color matching and consistency using color theory principles.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely to support painting tasks such as taping, masking, and applying primer or paint.
- Support the setup and breakdown of work areas, including scaffolding, drop cloths, and safety barriers on construction sites.
- Help with related tasks like caulking, trim carpentry, plastering, stucco application, fixture installation, and basic masonry work as needed.
- Read blueprints or schematics to understand project requirements for residential or commercial painting projects.
- Maintain a clean work environment by disposing of debris properly and ensuring tools are stored safely after use.
Skills
- Basic math skills for measuring surfaces and calculating paint quantities accurately.
- Experience with hand tools such as brushes, rollers, scrapers, and caulking guns; familiarity with power tools including airless sprayers is a plus.
- Knowledge of construction estimating concepts to assist in project planning and material needs.
- Understanding of color theory to support color matching and aesthetic decisions.
- Experience in residential or commercial painting projects along with construction site experience.
- Ability to read blueprints or schematics for precise project execution.
- Skills in related trades such as carpentry (trim carpentry, framing), restoration work, drywall finishing, masonry, welding, or airless paint spraying are highly desirable.
- Strong safety awareness with knowledge of construction site protocols and proper handling of hand tools and power equipment.
