Job Overview
Tailgate Sports Bar is seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to assist in leading our kitchen operations. As Northern Liberties' premier destination for sports, wings, signature cocktails, live entertainment, and high-energy dining, we are looking for a leader who can thrive in a fast paced, high volume environment while maintaining exceptional food quality and kitchen standards.
The Sous Chef will work closely with the Head Chef and management team to ensure food quality, kitchen efficiency, food safety compliance, and staff development. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with previous kitchen management experience who is passionate about delivering high quality food and helping create the outstanding guest experience Tailgate Sports Bar is known for.
Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations
- Supervise and support line cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen staff
- Ensure all food is prepared according to recipes and quality standards
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards at all times
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and receiving deliveries
- Monitor food costs and help minimize waste
- Train and mentor kitchen staff
- Assist with scheduling and labor management
- Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained
- Support menu development and special event preparation
- Help execute efficient kitchen operations during high-volume service periods
- Step into leadership responsibilities when the Head Chef is unavailable
Qualifications
- Previous Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or supervisory kitchen experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
- Ability to lead and motivate a team
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
- Experience with inventory and food cost management preferred
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of kitchen leadership experience preferred
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- ServSafe Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
