Job Summary:
The Prevention Education Specialist plays a crucial role in preventing child abuse, raising awareness, and educating our community through school and community-based presentations on child abuse and violence prevention topics. A successful Prevention Education Specialist can interact with a range of audiences, including school professionals, parents, and children of preschool through high school age in a manner that reflects the mission and values of the CAC.
Essential Functions:
1. Provide agency-approved presentations on-site and virtually for:
a. children ranging from Early Childhood thru High School on various topics of abuse and violence prevention
b. caregivers on sexual abuse prevention
c. for professionals who work with children (mandated reporters)
2. Work with Training Director to create, finalize, and lead prevention trainings.
3. Strengthen caregiver outreach through schools, healthcare, and community partners.
4. Maintain contact with counselors or staff/administrators to schedule programs for assigned schools.
5. Maintain data and statistics for reporting purposes through pre/post surveys and participant feedback.
6. Research and update existing programs to ensure best practice
7. Engage in high-quality, professional practices which are reflective of the Child Advocacy Center’s policies and procedures, state and federal statutes, accreditation standards, contractual conditions, and established best practices.
8. Participates in team meetings, supervision, professional development, and where appropriate, represents the CAC in task forces and committees.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:
1. General knowledge of child development, child abuse, and complex family dynamics in child abuse.
2. Ability and willingness to work as a team member with CAC staff, volunteers, and community members.
3. Ability to communicate effectively with others of various developmental levels.
4. Must be self-motivated with an ability to work independently without a great deal of supervision.
5. Verbal skills to communicate with the public.
6. Excellent communication, organizational, and negotiation skills are required.
7. Ability to build rapport with children and families and to understand and apply the dynamics of child abuse.
8. Basic computer skills.
9. Ability to function harmoniously in a small but busy workplace as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Specific Job Skills:
1. Must be available and able to travel to CAC service area schools and community locations.
2. Must have reliable transportation to travel to various off-site locations.
3. Must be available for evening or weekend events.
4. Must be comfortable with basic IT setups for both in-person and virtual presentations
Education/Experience/Training:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, criminal justice, social work, or human services field or 3-5 years of field experience in education or social services.

1. Performs bending, squatting, sorting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead, as required for tasks such as retrieving files.
2. Must be able to hold and grip objects as well as lift, grip, carry, push, or pull up to 15 pounds.
3. Must be able to climb stairs while carrying objects up to 10 pounds in weight.
4. Must possess visual acuity necessary to read and develop CAC materials as well as operate a computer and read text messages.
5. Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate in person and by telephone.
6. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, up to six hours.
Other Requirements:
1. Satisfactory criminal background investigation and a Child Abuse/Neglect screening as a condition of employment/contract.
2. Willingness to accommodate limited travel and work evenings, if necessary.
3. Must acknowledge and adhere to the CAC’s confidentiality policy and procedures and must adhere strictly to the highest professional ethics, confidentiality, discretion, and judgment.
