Albertville City Schools is seeking dedicated and reliable Substitute Teachers to support classroom instruction across the district. As a key part of the educational community in Albertville, Alabama, substitute teachers play a vital role in ensuring that student learning continues seamlessly in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This is an on-call, on-demand position that offers flexibility while making a meaningful difference in the lives of students every day. This position will provide instruction, manage the classroom environment, and promote student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Successful candidates will be comfortable stepping into a variety of classroom settings — from elementary to high school — and will be expected to maintain a professional, student-centered environment that reflects the standards and expectations of Albertville City Schools. Because this is a substitute role, availability and hours will vary based on the needs of the district. While some opportunities outside the regular school schedule may arise, assignments are primarily tied to the standard school-day schedule. Candidates must be comfortable working on an on-call basis and should be prepared to accept assignments with short notice. Position schedule will be based on the school's standard schedule, and while some districts may offer opportunities outside of the regular school schedule, these are not guaranteed and opportunities will be limited.
A typical day as a Substitute Teacher with Albertville City Schools begins with a morning check-in at the school office, where you'll receive the classroom teacher's lesson plans, seating charts, and any specific instructions for the day. You'll set up the classroom, greet students as they arrive, and take attendance according to school procedures. Throughout the day, you'll guide students through pre-planned lessons, assign classwork and homework, and keep the classroom environment focused and orderly. You'll be responsible for implementing teacher lesson plans, maintaining classroom control and discipline, and setting up basic technology equipment to support classroom instruction. Between lessons, you'll monitor student behavior, answer questions, and provide encouragement to keep students engaged. At the end of the day, you'll complete a daily report for the classroom teacher summarizing how the day went, any notable student behavior, and progress made through the lesson plan. Success in this role looks like a classroom that stayed on track, students who felt supported, and a teacher who returns to a well-managed room.
