Do you enjoy working with children and making a difference in your community? The Bethlehem Police Department is seeking dependable, safety-conscious individuals to serve as Crossing Guards.
Crossing Guards play an essential role in keeping students safe by assisting them across busy intersections and helping ensure a safe commute to and from school.
Position Summary
Crossing Guards are responsible for directing pedestrians across streets and stopping traffic, as necessary, at designated school crossings during students' morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. This position requires individuals who are alert, dependable, and committed to public safety.
Essential Duties
- Safely assist students and pedestrians in crossing streets at assigned locations.
- Stop and direct traffic using approved traffic control procedures.
- Promote pedestrian safety during school arrival and dismissal times.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with students, parents, motorists, school staff, and the public.
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Report safety concerns or traffic issues to the appropriate supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must have reliable transportation to assigned crossing location.
- Must be available to work both daily shifts:
- Morning: Start time between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
- Afternoon: Start time between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
- Each shift lasts approximately 60–90 minutes.
- Must be available to work approximately 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar.
- Must successfully obtain and maintain the following background clearances: Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Check, FBI Criminal Background Check, and Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact positively with children and the public.

- Reflective safety vest
- Stop paddle
- Required training
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid driver's license preferred.
