Provides direct patient care in the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum setting. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with providers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in the Labor and Delivery Department.

Please note benefits are based on eligibility according to full-time, part-time or PRN status classification.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
2. Ability to care for antepartum patients and monitor for complications and change in status.
3. Ability to assess and care for patients in labor, during delivery, and postpartum and address any change in condition.
4. Able to act as scrub technician and circulating nurse during operative procedures in the Labor Unit operating room. Required to a competency skills pass off at skills lab biannually.
5. Able to provide family-centered care.
6. Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to current guidelines.
7. Able to perform vitals, assessments, and reassessments on infants and adults per policy.
8. Ability to implement a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of the patient and evaluates effectiveness of teaching (family is included as appropriate).
9. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
10. Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patients’ response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Reevaluates and documents plan of care each shift.
11. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skill necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring according to AWHONN guidelines. Identifies FHR patterns and intervenes appropriately and promptly.
13. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the charge nurse, nursing staff and/or providers.
14. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for the interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
15. Demonstrates an ability to assist providers with procedures.
16. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful and emergent situations.

Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid RN license with the state of Idaho.
Proof of completion of the following courses is required either at time of hire, or within the time frame designated:
• BLS Healthcare Provider within 2 weeks of hire. • NRP, ACLS, & STABLE within 6 months of hire. • BBNC within 12 months of hire. • Complete Mother Baby and Infant feeding competency prior to coming off orientation, and thereafter attend biannual skills lab to maintain competency. • Working knowledge of the human anatomy and its application to the well and sick perinatal patients.
Experience: Previous labor and/or postpartum experience preferred.
