SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Christian Brothers Academy is a private, Catholic, coeducational college preparatory school established in 1900 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a religious order founded by St. John Baptist de La Salle. The student body of 7th through 12graders reside in Syracuse and over 30 different surrounding communities. The school enjoys a rich and distinguished tradition of academic, spiritual, athletic, and co-curricular excellence. The typical CBA graduate matriculates directly to a 4-year college.
CBA operates with an administrative team of President, Principal, Assistant Principals for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and the Junior High School. The Directors of Athletics, Vice Presidents of Enrollment Management, Mission, Advancement, Finance, and Director of Guidance, have prominent roles at the school. The Assistant Principal for the Junior High oversees many of the activities that relate to those students and staff. This is a full-time, 10-month position following the academic calendar. Occasional attendance at evening meetings, parent conferences, or school events may be required.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Education Teacher oversees all special education services for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and is responsible for providing specialized instruction, student support, and advocacy for students with diverse learning needs. Rooted in the educational mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the Special Education Teacher works collaboratively with faculty, families, administrators, and outside professionals to ensure that every student is known, supported, challenged, and empowered to achieve academic and personal success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Special Education Teacher include the following:
● Assists the school Administrators in promoting and fostering the Lasallian charism of the school.
● Creates a positive school environment by inspiring a community spirit, a commitment to excellence, and institutional pride.
● Builds positive relationships with students while encouraging respectful behavior and adherence to school expectations.
● Develop, implement, and monitor individualized instructional strategies that support students with documented learning differences.
● Utilize assistive technology and digital learning tools to support student accommodations, increase access to curriculum, and promote academic independence.
● Assist students in developing executive functioning, organization, study skills, self-advocacy, and independent learning strategies.
● Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on data and performance.
● Provide academic coaching and support throughout the school year.
● Develop, implement, and monitor accommodation plans in accordance with school policies and applicable special education laws.
● Coordinate the administration of classroom and standardized testing accommodations for students with IEPs.
● Maintain accurate documentation regarding student accommodations, progress, and services in accordance with their IEPs.
● Ensure confidentiality of all student records and educational information.
● Stay current with federal, state, and local regulations related to special education and accommodations.
● Serve as a resource to faculty regarding instructional strategies, accommodations, and inclusive classroom practices.
● Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers to promote student success.
● Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and support plans.
● Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, psychologists, local school districts, and outside service providers.
● Coordinate with sending school districts to ensure continuity of services and appropriate implementation of student accommodation plans.
● Participate in student support meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions.
● Pursue ongoing professional learning in special education, instructional practices, and educational technology.
● Participate fully in the life of the school community.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the President and/or Principal
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimal qualifications required for this position are:
● Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
● Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Special Education (or ability to obtain certification).
● Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies for diverse learners.
● Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, parents, and support professionals.
● Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Additional qualifications preferred include:
● Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
● Experience working with high school students.
● Familiarity with college accommodation processes and transition planning.
● Experience supporting students with executive functioning challenges, ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other diverse learning needs.
● Knowledge of assistive technology and educational software.
