Summary
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interviews defendants regarding financial status, calculates fees and negotiates methods and schedules of payments for collection
Requests and reviews defendant’s credit history through the San Antonio Retail Merchant Association (SARMA) Credit Agency to determine a debt and payment pattern
Collects payments from defendants in person and by mail, and issues receipts, reconciles daily cash accounts and deposits collected funds with the County Treasury Office
Performs data entry into internal cash report to log incoming funds, and prepares collection reports on a daily and monthly basis
Contacts defendants that breach their scheduled payments, processes delinquent cases for non-compliance action and prepares reports to document progress
Prepares and notarizes affidavits requesting court approval to waive defendant assessed fees
Coordinates with District Attorney’s Office in preparation and submittal of civil law suits for delinquent or expired payment contracts beyond legal term limits
Performs other duties as required
Essential Functions:
Performs intake function to include assisting defendants with filling out required paperwork and assigning defendants to Collection Specialists for interviews
Cashiers payments from defendants in person and by mail, and issues receipts, reconciles daily cash accounts and deposits collected funds with the County Treasury Office
Contacts defendants via telephone and mail regarding missed or late payments, processes delinquent cases for non-compliance action and prepares reports to document progress
Prepares daily intake statistics
Assists with administrative duties, such as daily attendance, filing, and reception
Minimum Qualifications :
High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years general office, collections or criminal justice experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of collections procedures and techniques; knowledge of basic legal terms and procedures; knowledge of cash account management procedures; knowledge of office procedures
Skill to type 35 wpm with no more than 7 errors; skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and other basic office equipment
Ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to organize, compile and record information accurately; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with defendants, outside attorneys, other government agencies, co-workers, other County employees and the public
Must secure and retain authority to act as a Notary Public within six months of employment
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, motor vehicle liability insurance, personal injury insurance and a personal vehicle
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May work weekends, perform shift work and work holidays
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
