We are seeking early-career Engineers with spacecraft mission design, communications, systems engineering, or technical analysis experience to join our Mission Commitment team supporting NASA space communications and network integration activities. This role combines engineering analysis, mission coordination, and systems planning to support successful integration and operation of missions across NASA and commercial space communications networks.
The selected candidate will work closely with mission teams, network providers, and technical subject matter experts to support communications analyses, mission integration activities, and development of technical products supporting mission planning and operational readiness.
Core Responsibilities:
- Support intake and coordination of mission communications service requests and interactions between mission teams and network subject matter experts
- Assist with tracking mission communications and integration status through development and integration phases
- Support transition activities for missions moving into network operations
- Perform engineering analyses related to spacecraft communications performance, including link budget, coverage, and RF compatibility analyses
- Support network loading, capacity, and utilization assessments for mission planning activities
- Develop technical reports, presentation materials, memoranda, and data products summarizing engineering analyses and findings
- Support assessments of mission communications supportability within NASA SCaN and commercial communications architectures
- Assist with identification of technical constraints, operational risks, and potential mitigation approaches
- Support development and maintenance of engineering analysis tools, models, datasets, and analytical methods
- Maintain technical data, assumptions, and analytical products under configuration management practices
- Support readiness reviews, technical meetings, status reporting, and action item tracking activities
- Support spectrum planning and coordination activities related to communications system compatibility and spectrum sharing
Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or similar technical disciplines.
Years of experience: 0 – 5 years of relevant experience in spacecraft communications, mission analysis, systems engineering, RF engineering, software development, or related aerospace disciplines. Applicable internships, undergraduate/graduate research, and academic project experience will be considered.
Work Authorization: Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
Role/Work Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site position in Greenbelt, MD.
Preferred Skills
- Coursework or internship experience related to RF communications systems, aerospace systems, or spacecraft operations
- Familiarity with spacecraft communications concepts including link budgets, coverage, and network operations
- Basic knowledge of satellite orbital dynamics and mission operations concepts
- Familiarity with NASA space communications networks such as the Near Space Network (NSN), Deep Space Network (DSN), Space Relay (SR), or Direct-to-Earth (DTE) communications
- Experience with technical analysis tools or scripting languages such as MATLAB, Python, STK, GMAT, or C#
- Ability to analyze technical data and communicate results clearly in written and verbal formats
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary technical teams
Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
