We're seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to lead and support environmental compliance initiatives at our manufacturing facility. Depending on experience and qualifications, this role may be filled at either the Engineer or Senior Engineer level.
In this highly visible position, you'll partner with plant leadership, operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, drive sustainability initiatives, and support continuous improvement efforts. Lead site environmental compliance programs and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations

Manage environmental permitting activities and maintain required permits, registrations, and certifications

Coordinate environmental inspections, monitoring, testing, reporting, and auditing programs

Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory agencies

Partner with site leadership and corporate EHS teams to address regulatory matters and obtain necessary approvals and permits

Develop and implement systems that ensure ongoing compliance across air emissions, water, wastewater, waste management, and other environmental programs

Support and deliver EHS training programs for employees

Create and maintain procedures, work instructions, and visual standards that promote operational excellence and regulatory compliance

Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure environmental monitoring, inspections, and recordkeeping activities are completed effectively

Lead projects focused on reducing environmental risk, improving compliance, and enhancing operational performance

Provide technical expertise for environmental investigations, audits, assessments, remediation activities, and capital projects

Support sustainability initiatives, including recycling programs, greenhouse gas reporting, waste reduction, and resource conservation efforts

Evaluate environmental challenges, identify solutions, and implement corrective actions

Coordinate environmental testing programs, including vendor selection, test planning, execution, and regulatory reporting

Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, environmental performance, efficiency, and service

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or a related technical field

5+ years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (requirements may vary based on level)

Strong knowledge of environmental regulations related to air, water, wastewater, and waste management

Experience obtaining permits and managing regulatory compliance programs

Proven ability to establish compliance systems, monitoring programs, inspections, audits, and documentation processes

Experience interpreting environmental regulations and applying requirements to manufacturing processes and equipment

Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and meet deadlines independently

Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build relationships across all levels of the organization

Hands-on approach with the willingness to spend time in manufacturing and operational environments

Experience supporting environmental compliance at a Michigan manufacturing facility
-
Experience managing environmental service providers, contractors, and related procurement activities

Knowledge of sustainability programs, greenhouse gas reporting, recycling initiatives, and waste minimization strategies

Experience leading environmental audits and regulatory agency interactions

Professional certifications related to environmental or EHS disciplines
