Kitchen staff are responsible for preparing, assembling, and serving café food items with consistency, speed, and cleanliness. The role focuses on warming food, sandwich assembly, pastry handling, and food prep work rather than full-scale cooking.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Assembly
- Prepare and assemble menu items including:
- Breakfast sandwiches (biscuit, croissant-based)
- Tartines (avocado, feta, chicken salad)
- Heated pastries (croissants, cookies, etc.)
- Follow exact portioning and presentation standards
- Maintain consistency in taste and appearance
Ingredient Prep
- Prepare ingredients before service:
- Prepare chicken salad mix
- Slice vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.)
- Prepare avocado mash
- Portion cheeses and spreads
- Label and store all items properly (FIFO method)
Heating & Equipment Use
- Use ovens/toasters to:
- Heat croissants, biscuits, and pastries
- Melt cheese and finish sandwiches
- Monitor cooking times to avoid overcooking or waste
- Keep equipment clean and operational
Cleanliness & Food Safety
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen at all times
- Follow Louisiana health and safety standards:
- Proper handwashing
- Food temperature control
- Avoid cross-contamination
- Clean station, tools, and surfaces regularly
Stock & Inventory Support
- Monitor ingredient levels during shifts
- Notify manager when items are low
- Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries
Teamwork & Communication
- Coordinate with baristas and servers during rush hours
- Communicate ticket times and delays clearly
- Support front-of-house when needed
Performance Expectations
- Fast ticket times (especially during morning and lunch rush)
- Consistent product quality
- Clean workstation at all times
- Minimal food waste
Requirements
- Basic kitchen or food service experience required
- Experience in cafés or brunch spots preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and cleanliness
- Ability to stand for long periods
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
