What do we do?
Our goal at American Pain Consortium is to support our clinics that help patients seeking relief from pain, numbness, and tingling sensations that are often related to neuropathic pain or neuropathy, among many other forms of chronic pain. Even patients who have tried other pain treatments without success often benefit significantly from safe, effective treatment at American Pain Consortium. Our clinical multidisciplinary approach to care delivers the correct intervention to every patient, every time through various pain management procedures including injections, open surgical cases with general anesthesia, physical therapy, and psychological services. What will you do?
The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the safe, efficient, and compassionate care of patients throughout the perioperative experience in an ambulatory surgery center. This position assists with patient preparation and recovery processes, ensuring a clean, organized, and patient-centered environment while working collaboratively with nursing staff, providers, and other healthcare team members.
Key responsibilities include escorting and preparing patients for surgery, obtaining and documenting vital signs, applying and setting up patient monitoring equipment, and assisting with patient flow in pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) areas. The Medical Assistant maintains cleanliness and readiness of patient care areas by cleaning and preparing pre-op and PACU bays between patients and ensuring adequate stocking of supplies and equipment.
Additional duties include assisting patients with discharge and transportation to vehicles, supporting sterile processing activities, performing facility audits, completing required documentation, and assisting with regulatory compliance initiatives. The Medical Assistant serves as a flexible team member who provides support throughout the surgery center within their scope of practice and training, contributing to exceptional patient care, safety, and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)
- Escort patients to and from pre-operative, procedure, and recovery areas while ensuring patient comfort, privacy, and safety.
- Prepare patients for surgery by obtaining, documenting, and communicating vital signs, height, weight, and other pertinent information to the clinical team.
- Apply and assist with patient monitoring equipment as directed, including blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeters, cardiac monitors, and other non-invasive monitoring devices.
- Assist nursing staff with patient care activities within the Medical Assistant's scope of practice.
- Prepare and maintain pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Clean, disinfect, and turnover patient care areas, stretchers, beds, equipment, and high-touch surfaces in accordance with infection prevention standards.
- Assist with patient discharge processes, including escorting patients safely to designated vehicles and providing non-clinical support as needed.
- Perform routine stocking and inventory management of medical supplies, linens, personal protective equipment, and patient care items.
- Support sterile processing operations by cleaning, preparing, assembling, transporting, and storing instruments and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
- Assist with quality assurance activities, facility audits, environmental rounds, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Accurately complete required documentation, logs, audit forms, checklists, and other records in a timely manner.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness throughout the facility, including patient care areas, storage rooms, and common workspaces.
- Monitor supply levels and communicate needed inventory or equipment to appropriate personnel.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and distributing supplies and equipment throughout the facility.
- Respond promptly to requests from providers, nurses, and leadership to support efficient patient flow and daily operations.
- Adhere to all infection control, patient safety, confidentiality, HIPAA, and workplace safety policies.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programs, competency assessments, and continuing education activities as required.
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork by assisting with additional duties and responsibilities as assigned within the scope of practice and organizational needs.

What qualifications do you need?
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Medical Assistant certification preferred
