Duties
- Design and implement comprehensive training programs tailored to varsity cross country athletes, focusing on endurance, speed, and technique improvement
- Lead team practices, motivating students to achieve personal and team goals through active coaching and encouragement
- Organize and oversee team competitions, ensuring athletes are prepared physically and mentally for meets
- Foster a supportive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork
- Communicate regularly with student-athletes, parents, and school staff regarding team progress, schedules, and performance expectations
- Monitor athlete health and safety during practices and competitions, applying first aid or CPR as needed and operating AED equipment when necessary
- Maintain accurate records of athlete attendance, performance metrics, and training progress
Requirements
- Proven experience in sports coaching with a focus on cross country or endurance running
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate diverse groups of student-athletes
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and school personnel
- Knowledge of sports-specific training techniques for distance running and conditioning
- Experience working with children or teenagers in a coaching or educational setting
- Certifications in first aid and CPR; AED operation certification.
- Ability to manage behavior effectively while fostering a positive team environment
