American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stroke/Neuro PCU position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring EPIC experience and prior neuro PCU experience.

Work in a 12-bed telemetry PCU (12 West) specializing in stroke, neurology, and hospitalist medicine patients at a large acute care facility in Roanoke, VA
-
Unit is a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center within a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4

IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration required)

Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on unit; tele sitting implemented to supplement Patient Care Tech coverage

Primary shift is 3x12-hour nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM; 4x12 schedule available by request

Weekend requirement is every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block

One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract

Floating required within skillset

Epic EMR experience required
-
Active VA or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Prior neuro PCU experience required
-
Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
-
Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care

Medication administration skills including cardiac drips (no titration)

Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management

Familiarity with isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, IMC, and stepdown environments

Two professional references required for consideration

Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Provide specialized nursing care to stroke and neurology patients in a certified primary stroke center environment

First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though prior travel experience is preferred
