Donor Services Laboratory provides innovative, exceptional laboratory testing to meet the unique testing needs of the tissue and eye bank industry. Donor Services Laboratory (DSL) is CLIA certified, CAP accredited, ISO accredited, and FDA registered for screening human cells, tissues, and cellular and tissue-based products (HCT/Ps).
Position Scope:
Under the direction of the Manager, the Medical Technologist performs laboratory testing and related activities in support of donor screening and HCT/P testing requirements. Responsibilities may include testing in one or more of the following areas: accessioning, serology, molecular, microbiology, and point of care.
Schedule:
Full-time position. Shift is 7:00p to 5:00a, Tuesday - Friday
Job Duties:
The following are essential functions and basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Support of DSL’s mission, vision, and values; adheres to its policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position
- Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity laboratory testing using manual and automated processes in accordance with applicable SOPs, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
- Obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to written procedures
- Understand the methods and principles of laboratory tests
- Performs and evaluates quality control and troubleshooting steps to determine acceptability of results.
- Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation and interprets results as to their accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits
- Demonstrated knowledge of open and expiration dates and storage of specimens, QC materials, and reagents
- Organizes work to meet established turn-around-times
- Complies with all protocols, SOPs and regulatory requirements
- Completes all proficiency and competency tasks
- Assists manager or supervisor in training new employees
- May be required to work various shifts
Compliance / Safety
- Responsible for reporting any safety-related incident in a timely manner
- Monitor work environment for possible safety issues
- Performs work in a safe manner
Qualifications:
The following identifies the education, training and experience required to perform essential functions of the job.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited college or university; or other education and training pathway that meets applicable CLIA personnel qualification standards and Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel licensure requirements.
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification through ASCP or equivalent preferred.
- Must meet Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel licensure requirements and applicable CLIA personnel qualification standards for the complexity of testing performed. Must maintain required licensure and credentials applicable to the position.
Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- 3+ years of laboratory experience, highly preferred
- Interest in working as part of a small and growing company, with awareness about the opportunities and challenges that come with a highly adaptive environment
- Ability to retain confidential information
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present a professional image to management, staff, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Independent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, and Word, and LIMS
General Support:
- Support broader DSL team and assist with additional projects and initiatives as needed.
