Job Title: Direct Support Professional (Afternoon & Evenings – Sign Language Preferred)
Location: East Cleveland, Ohio
Pay: $16.00 – $17.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 20 – 40 hours per week
Overview:
We are looking for a compassionate and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support an individual with developmental disabilities in both home and community-based settings. The ideal candidate enjoys providing companionship, promotes independence, and supports daily living activities. Flexibility is essential, as shifts may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and some weekends.
Schedule & Work Expectations:
- Flexible 24/7 weekly schedule available
- Afternoon shifts may include picking up the client from their day program
Key Responsibilities:
- Support with daily living activities such as:
- Meal preparation
- Personal hygiene
- Mobility assistance
- Provide HPC (Homemaker/Personal Care) services
- Transport client to:
- Medical appointments
- Grocery stores
- Community and recreational outings
- Build rapport through companionship and meaningful engagement
- Encourage client independence and self-advocacy
- Collaborate with family and care team to ensure consistent, person-centered care
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- 1+ year experience in DODD, group home, or home care (preferred)
- CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Strong communication skills, patience, and problem-solving ability
- Active listening and ability to foster client self-expression
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in or comfort with American Sign Language (ASL)
- Understanding of developmental disabilities and person-centered care approaches
