Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fine Gardener/Garden Manager to join our team in caring for diverse residential gardens across the Lower Peninsula and South Bay. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in high-quality horticultural work, values ecological gardening practices, and enjoys working independently and outdoors.
As a Garden Manager, you will not only maintain the health and beauty of each client’s garden but also act as their primary point of contact—sourcing high-quality plants and coordinating seasonal planting updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular high-quality maintenance, including hand weeding, deadheading, mulching, and seasonal planting.
- Conduct detailed aesthetic and corrective pruning of perennials, shrubs, and small trees
- Keep clients connected to their outdoor spaces by providing light, friendly updates on plant health, seasonal shifts, and suggestions for upcoming planting updates.
- Support soil health through composting, mulching, and organic amendments
- Monitor plant health and pest/disease issues; implement organic solutions as needed
- Maintain clean, organized workspaces and care for provided tools and equipment
- Travel to 2–3 client gardens per day (mileage reimbursement provided), maintaining clean workspaces
Qualifications
- 2–3 years of professional experience in fine gardening, garden care, or high-end residential landscape maintenance
- Strong knowledge of plant identification, proper care, and seasonal maintenance techniques.
- Proficiency in aesthetic and structural pruning of perennials, shrubs, and small ornamental trees.
- Familiarity with ecological and organic gardening principles
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work efficiently outdoors in all weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
Preferred But Not Required
- Experience with California native plants, edible gardens, or pollinator habitats
- Certification or coursework in horticulture, permaculture, or related fields
- Background in regenerative or ecological landscape maintenance
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
