About Welman: We’re a local nonprofit organization uplifting our community at the intersection of imagination, education, and the environment. Through creative repurposing of surplus business waste, we give teachers the tools and support they need to provide vital hands-on learning opportunities to every student. Our organization is young and growing, and we prioritize internal promotions for individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential and dedication.
About the Role: Our Volunteer Program Assistant supports the Volunteer Coordinator by facilitating group projects, training volunteers, and maintaining our Volunteer Workroom. This hands-on role ensures a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for volunteers, staff, and visitors alike.
Responsibilities:
- Work with our Volunteer Coordinator and Donations Specialists to oversee supply intake and group project needs, outlining goals and tasks for volunteers to ensure an efficient flow of materials and a well-organized space
- Assist with large volunteer groups and lead small volunteer groups, working alongside our Volunteer Coordinator to connect with and lead volunteers
- Work with our Volunteer Coordinator to provide ongoing training and support for volunteers to ensure they are both satisfied and well-placed in their role
- Keep volunteer supplies and facilities organized and stocked, and clean the Volunteer Workroom at close of day.
- Greet and register incoming volunteers, connecting them with staff members or relevant projects as designated
- Cover program areas as needed, including assisting teachers in the Educator Warehouse, accepting incoming donations, and greeting teachers at the Welcome Desk.
- Lead group tours of the space, following a general script to introduce groups to Welman.
Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills - the ability to develop relationships with a diverse population and create space for everyone to feel welcome and included
- Strong leadership skills - effectively execute a vision by clearly delegating tasks to individuals and groups
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to produce consistent quality products from materials
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively for yourself and others
- Ability to be flexible and shift priorities as needed while staying calm and collected in a busy environment
- Ability to work well independently, problem-solve, and take initiative
- Ability to work actively alongside volunteers, which often involves lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs, climbing a ladder, and standing and walking for a full shift, minus breaks (some accommodations can be made as needed)
- Must be able to pass a background check to work with youth volunteers
- Passionate about creativity, education, and saving the planet
