The Transportation Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily trucking operations, supporting drivers, monitoring dispatch activity, and ensuring freight is moved safely, efficiently, and on time. This role serves as a key leader between dispatch, drivers, customers, maintenance, and terminal leadership.
The Operations Supervisor must be able to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment, communicate clearly, solve problems quickly, and hold the team accountable to safety, service, productivity, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily transportation operations, including driver dispatch, route execution, customer updates, and issue resolution.
- Monitor driver performance, on-time service, equipment utilization, idle performance, safety compliance, and productivity.
- Support dispatchers and operations staff with daily planning, load coverage, driver communication, and problem-solving.
- Ensure all drivers are operating safely and in compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, hours-of-service rules, and customer requirements.
- Communicate with customers regarding load status, service issues, delays, equipment needs, and operational updates.
- Partner with maintenance to address equipment breakdowns, inspections, trailer availability, and service-related issues.
- Review operational reports and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and increase revenue.
- Coach and develop dispatchers, drivers, and operations team members to improve performance and accountability.
- Investigate service failures, late loads, safety concerns, driver issues, and customer complaints.
- Ensure accurate updates are entered into transportation systems, customer portals, and internal reporting tools.
- Assist with driver engagement, retention, performance conversations, and corrective action when needed.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure daily decisions support safe operations.
- Provide clear shift handoffs and communicate important updates to leadership and the next shift.
Qualifications
- Previous transportation, trucking, logistics, or dispatch experience preferred.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service, dispatch operations, and transportation systems is a plus.
- Strong computer skills, including email, Microsoft Office, transportation management systems, and customer portals.
- Ability to lead with accountability while maintaining a professional and respectful approach.
- Must be dependable, organized, and willing to support operations outside normal expectations when needed.

Work Environment
This position operates in a transportation office and terminal environment. The role requires regular communication with drivers, dispatchers, customers, maintenance teams, and leadership. Evening, weekend, or after-hours support may be required based on operational needs.
