Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Orthopedics and Neurology to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive clinical expertise, exceptional patient care skills, and a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes. As a Med-Surg RN, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions, ensuring safety, comfort, and effective treatment throughout their hospital stay. Your role will involve collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic, evidence-based care in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories, with particular attention to neurological and musculoskeletal status.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, suturing, and medication management for acute pain control.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient care activities comprehensively and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Monitor patients closely for signs of neurological deterioration or orthopedic complications, initiating appropriate interventions promptly.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures such as CT scans or laboratory specimen collection while maintaining aseptic technique.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, medication regimens, mobility exercises, and discharge planning tailored to orthopedic or neurological conditions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapists, neurologists, surgeons, and case managers to develop individualized care plans aligned with best practices.
- Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed; maintain sterile environments during procedures such as catheterization or wound suturing.
Experience
- Proven clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing within a hospital setting, preferably at a Level I or Level II trauma center.
- Demonstrated expertise in orthopedic and neurological patient care, including post-operative recovery and trauma medicine.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is advantageous.
- Critical care experience in ICU or telemetry units is highly desirable to manage complex cases involving acute pain management or ventilator support.
- Background in managing patients requiring specialized procedures like cardiac catheterization or dialysis is preferred.
- Knowledge of infection control standards and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining patient safety during invasive procedures.
- Prior experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with disabilities, or those requiring hospice & palliative care enhances your candidacy.
