$57,390 annually or Commensurate with Experience

SUMMARY:

This position manages routine work in the Orphans’ Court Division of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. This includes auditing the distribution of assets from estates, trusts and incapacitated estates and preparing final distribution decrees for judge’s signatures. The assignments generally follow routine procedures, although specific assignments may be given. The position workload involves some initiative and independent judgment and is carried out under the supervision of the Department Supervisor and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or related field.
Education and/or experience working in the legal field is preferred but not required.
Computer skills and experience in Windows environment, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and TEAMS. The ability to learn internal computer systems is crucial to the functioning of the department.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to handle in-person inquiries and telephone.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills must always display professional conduct.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares final distribution decrees and related materials for judges’ signatures.
Reviews wills and testimony to determine how assets are to be distributed.
Reviews and verifies the figures in first and final accounts, and petitions for distribution.
Monitors status of required filings, and of funds and other assets in estates.
Works with attorneys and others to make sure that reports and required materials are filed in a timely fashion.
Enters results of activities into the case management system or the forms.
Perform and/or assist with clerical duties and responsibilities when needed.
Research and review case specific information via court systems.
Assist in compiling the monthly statistical data and reports.
Communicate with judicial officers, bar members and other court-related entities to guarantee compliance with and understanding of established court policies and to obtain feedback on administrative and procedural matters.
