Position Summary:
The Department of Music at Westfield State University, a public liberal arts institution committed to excellence in teaching and student-centered learning, invites applications for a part-time Applied Voice Professor (Adjunct). This position involves teaching individual voice lessons to undergraduate students within a dynamic and collaborative liberal arts environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education, inclusive pedagogy, and artistic engagement, and will contribute to a supportive community that values both musical and academic growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but not limited to:
Essential:
- Teach weekly one-on-one applied voice lessons to music majors, minors, and secondary applied students

Prepare students for juries, recitals, auditions, and other performance opportunities

Participate in juries, studio classes, masterclasses, and departmental performances as appropriate

Communicate/collaborate with faculty collaborative pianist and ensemble directors

Mentor students in vocal technique, healthy voice practices, and stylistically appropriate repertoire

Support a liberal arts approach by encouraging interdisciplinary connections and critical thinking through music study

Evaluate student progress and submit grades in accordance with university policies

Possibility for coursework and ensemble coaching depending upon candidate's interests and experience
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, or a closely related field

Evidence of effective teaching and a strong commitment to undergraduate instruction

Active or recent professional performance experience

Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in a liberal arts college setting

Professional experience in jazz style
-
Versatility across vocal styles (jazz, classical, musical theatre, contemporary/commercial)

Experience with diction in multiple languages (Italian, German, French, English)

Interest in contributing to recruitment, outreach, or interdisciplinary initiatives
