The role of the Real Time Energy Trader is performed in teams of 3 while working on a 12-hour rotating shift basis. This includes nights, weekends and holidays as the energy market is always operating and in need of operational support.
Job Summary
The role of the Real Time Trader is to perform real-time energy trading and marketing, negotiate wholesale sales and purchases in the hourly markets, coordinate generation operations with dispatch personnel, coordinate transmission reservations, negotiate transmission purchases, schedule energy flow by issuing digital E-tags. Traders are responsible to record deals in a timely manner, maintain a physical position through trading software, communicate with forecasting and reliability dispatch as well as maintain a general level of awareness around the company’s generation assets. Develop professional relationships with power marketers and traders.
Key Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree in mathematics, business, finance, economics, or engineering or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience preferred with any of the following markets: WECC, CAISO, and Southwest, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NYISO, with proven ability to understand market conditions and to identify sales/purchase opportunities.
Understanding of financial modeling, risk assessment, commodity management, electricity and natural gas trading and hedging practices.
