About the Role
Our client, a leading manufacturer in the powersports and off-road vehicle industry, is seeking a Design Engineer (ORV Brakes) to support the design, development, validation, and release of brake system components for off-road vehicles. This role offers the opportunity to directly influence vehicle performance, ride quality, durability, and safety while partnering with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and supplier organizations.
The ideal candidate will bring experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within brake systems, and will be capable of managing component development projects from concept through production release.
Job Description
- Design, develop, and release brake system components using 3D CAD software.
- Create and execute plans for the design, development, testing, and validation of brake components and assemblies.
- Evaluate and implement brake system optimization, part consolidation, and standardization strategies across multiple vehicle platforms.
- Analyze simulation, CAE, test, and field performance data to support engineering decisions and drive product improvements.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective action activities related to product performance and reliability.
- Determine appropriate manufacturing methods while balancing design intent, performance requirements, cost objectives, and supplier capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, service, and supplier teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Prepare technical drawings, sketches, layouts, presentations, and supporting documentation.
- Lead and participate in design reviews to ensure technical accuracy, alignment, and successful project execution.
- Support large-scale brake component projects involving part reviews, sourcing evaluations, engineering changes, and print releases across multiple vehicle programs.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience in mechanical design engineering, including component or subsystem design.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), FMEA methodologies, tolerance stack-up analysis, and fit-and-finish principles.
- Experience interpreting engineering test data, validation results, and technical analyses to support design decisions.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement practical engineering solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support project deliverables in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing brake components or complete brake systems.
- Experience using Creo or similar 3D CAD software for product design and development.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools and engineering simulations.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, preferably PTC Windchill.
- Experience supporting component standardization, part consolidation, sourcing optimization, or cost-reduction initiatives.
- Ability to independently lead engineering projects from concept through production release with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in mechanical product development and a commitment to staying current with engineering best practices and technologies.
