SUMMARY: The FACE Family Enrichment Advocate (Parent Educator) supports families with children prenatally through age five by providing home-based education, outreach, and resources focused on child development and family well-being. This role includes planning and conducting family visits, fostering parent-child interactions, and connecting families with community resources. The Advocate works both independently and collaboratively to promote school readiness and strengthen family engagement within the community. Working collaboratively with the FACE team, the teacher designs and facilitates integrated learning experiences that strengthen parent-child relationships and support whole-family development. A strong emphasis is placed on advancing literacy and fostering meaningful family engagement, ensuring both parents and children are equipped for long-term success.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruit and enroll eligible children and families into the FACE program

Orient parents to program expectations, responsibilities, opportunities, and rights, and encourage participation in decision-making related to their child’s education
-
Plan, prepare for, and conduct weekly home or community-based visits (45–60 minutes) focused on parenting education and child development

Assess child developmental levels and provide developmentally appropriate parent-child learning activities

Identify family strengths and assess health care and social service needs
-
Partner with families and service providers to develop and implement Individual Family Plans (IFP), Individual Learning Plans (ILP), and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) as applicable

Provide referrals and follow-up for ongoing and emergent family needs, including health, nutrition, and social services

Review immunization records and complete required child health, nutrition, hearing, vision, and developmental screenings in compliance with FACE/BIA requirements

Prepare and submit developmental reports for each child at least twice per year

Support families in goal setting and progress toward self-identified outcomes

Build and maintain trusting, strengths-based relationships with families

Assist families with transitions to preschool and kindergarten, including attending transition meetings and coordinating with school staff

Plan and facilitate monthly group meetings on parenting, child development, or related topics, including coordinating guest speakers when appropriate

Collaborate with FACE team members to organize family engagement events and recruitment efforts

Assist families with transportation to program activities when necessary, including use of approved vehicles

Travel out of state as required to attend mandatory FACE conferences (typically once or twice per year)

Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all services, visits, and outcomes in the designated data system

Prepare and submit required reports, including annual program data and outcomes

Must have minimum of 12 Home based students and a minimum of 10 on site students

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Associate’s degree (or higher) or completion of at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution of higher education, plus one (1) year of relevant experience
Additional Requirements:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Washington State driver’s license

Ability to travel locally for home visits and transport families as needed

Ability to obtain the following within required timeframes:
-
First Aid and CPR certification (within 60 days of hire)

Food Handler’s Permit (within 30 days of hire)
-
Willingness to obtain an Associate’s degree within two (2) years of hire if not already attained
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Associates Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field
-
Two (2) years of experience in early childhood education, family support, or family development programs
-
Experience working with low-income families with young children
-
Experience working within Native American communities and/or strong knowledge of Native American culture
-
Knowledge of community resources within Pierce County and ability to connect families to services
-
Experience or training in areas such as education, speech/language development, behavior, or related fields
-
Previous paraeducator or parent educator experience
-
Familiarity with Parents as Teachers (PAT) or similar early childhood curriculum

Employees may be required to sit or stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving reaching, talking, hearing, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and fine motor coordination.

This position may require regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, with appropriate assistance or equipment as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is primarily performed in an indoor educational environment with moderate noise levels. Employees may work in and/or proximity to classrooms, students, and standard office or instructional equipment. Conditions may vary based on program needs.
