Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our school special education team. This role focuses on supporting all students. You will work under the direct supervision of licensed special education teachers to provide academic, emotional, and behavioral support. Your primary goal is to help students succeed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Behavioral Support
- Academic Assistance: Guide students through modified assignments. Reinforce lessons taught by the classroom teacher. Assist students individually or in small groups.
- Data Collection: Monitor student behavior patterns daily. Track academic progress. Document incidents accurately to help teams evaluate student goals.
- Supervision: Maintain a safe environment. Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and arrivals or departures.
- Collaboration: Work closely with special education teachers, social workers, and administrators. Participate in team meetings and professional development training.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must meet Minnesota ParaELEMN/ParaEducator requirements by possessing an Associate’s Degree, 60+ college credits, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral challenges preferred. Experience in a school setting is a plus.
- Skills: Strong patience, emotional regulation, and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and neutral in high-stress or crisis situations.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly to ensure student safety. Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds if necessary.
