We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to provide technical leadership and support for welding and fabrication operations. This role is responsible for developing and qualifying welding procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes and standards, supporting production teams, and driving continuous improvement in welding quality, productivity, and safety. The Welding Engineer will collaborate with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize welding processes and resolve technical challenges.
- Welding Process Development: Develop, qualify, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and supporting welding documentation.
- Weld Failure Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis of welding defects, fabrication issues, and field failures. Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve quality and performance.
- Quality and Compliance: Ensure welding operations comply with applicable AWS, ASME, API, customer, and internal quality requirements. Support audits and quality initiatives as needed.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to support fabrication activities and improve welding processes.
- Process Improvement and Validation: Evaluate and optimize welding parameters, equipment, consumables, and techniques. Support qualification testing and validation activities to ensure weld integrity and process consistency.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, welding procedures, inspection documentation, and recommendations. Maintain accurate records of welding qualifications, process changes, and quality improvements.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related technical field required.
- Experience: Proven experience in welding engineering, fabrication engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related role. Experience with industrial fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, piping, or heavy manufacturing preferred.
- Technical Skills: Hands-on knowledge of welding processes including GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG), FCAW, SMAW, and/or SAW. Experience with weld procedure development, welder qualification, and welding inspections. Familiarity with AWS and ASME codes and standards is preferred.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills with the ability to identify welding defects, metallurgical concerns, and process improvement opportunities.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with production personnel, engineers, inspectors, customers, and suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification.
- Experience with robotic or automated welding systems.
- Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as VT, PT, MT, UT, and RT.
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma process improvements.
