Job Summary
The Lot Technician / Inventory Manager is responsible for maintaining accurate vehicle inventory and ensuring the dealership lot is organized, clean, and sales-ready at all times. This role plays a key part in daily dealership operations by tracking vehicles, coordinating vehicle movement, and supporting the sales and service teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesInventory Management
- Track all new and used vehicles entering and leaving the dealership
- Maintain accurate inventory records in dealership management systems (DMS)
- Stock in vehicles, assign stock numbers, and apply tags/labels
- Conduct regular physical inventory checks and reconcile discrepancies
- Report missing, damaged, or miskeyed vehicles immediately
Lot Operations
- Organize vehicles on the lot to support sales flow and merchandising standards
- Move vehicles safely between the lot, showroom, service department, and detail
- Ensure vehicles are properly staged, parked, and locked
- Assist with dealer trades, vehicle deliveries, and customer pickups
Vehicle Readiness & Appearance
- Check vehicles for basic readiness (cleanliness, fuel level, battery, tire pressure)
- Coordinate detailing and service needs
- Ensure window stickers, pricing, and key tags are accurate and present
Safety & Maintenance
- Keep the lot clean, orderly, and free of hazards
- Follow all dealership safety policies and procedures
- Identify and report lot or vehicle safety issues
Support Duties
- Work closely with sales, service, and management teams
- Assist during inventory audits and manufacturer inspections
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous dealership, lot, or inventory experience is a plus
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to operate both automatic and manual transmission vehicles
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn dealership software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to [e.g., 50 lbs] as needed
