Position Summary
AMG is seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to support quality assurance, process improvement, and compliance initiatives at our Commack precision machining facility.
This role partners closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Customers to ensure product and process quality, drive corrective actions, reduce manufacturing variation, and maintain compliance with customer and industry quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who enjoys working directly on the manufacturing floor, analyzing data, driving improvements, and collaborating across departments to achieve quality and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, customer-specific requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Lead and support internal, customer, and third-party quality audits, including preparation, execution, and corrective action follow-up.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA/RCCA) activities related to customer complaints, internal nonconformances, supplier issues, and process failures.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Production teams to improve CNC machining, Swiss machining, and precision manufacturing processes, reduce scrap, improve yield, and enhance process capability.
- Review, develop, and approve inspection plans, control plans, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements and customer-specific requirements.
- Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI), process validation, and production readiness activities.
- Analyze quality metrics, trends, and performance data to identify risks and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions, supplier qualification efforts, and incoming inspection controls.
- Develop and maintain quality procedures, standards, and inspection methodologies.
- Ensure customer drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, and technical requirements are effectively translated into manufacturing and inspection controls.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support customer satisfaction, regulatory compliance, on-time delivery, and operational excellence initiatives.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3–6+ years of Quality Engineering experience within medical device, aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting CNC machining or precision manufacturing operations.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, and/or ISO 13485 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience leading or supporting root cause investigations and corrective action programs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Hands-on approach with a strong presence on the manufacturing floor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with precision machining, CNC turning, Swiss machining, milling, or other high-precision manufacturing processes.
- Experience supporting medical device or surgical instrument manufacturing.
- Experience conducting or supporting customer, internal, and third-party audits.
- Knowledge of First Article Inspection (AS9102) requirements.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Experience with statistical analysis, SPC, process capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and quality data analysis.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement training and certification.
- Experience working within regulated manufacturing environments serving medical device, aerospace, or defense customers.
