The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Canteen Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the VFW Canteen, providing excellent customer service to veterans, their families, and guests, while maintaining a welcoming and respectful atmosphere. This position ensures the smooth operation of the canteen, including managing staff, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations. The Canteen Manager will also work to promote the VFW mission, coordinate events, and create a positive social space for the local veteran community.
**Overview:**
We are seeking a skilled Bar Manager to join our team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management:
- Oversee daily operations of the canteen, ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient environment.
- Ensure that the canteen is adequately stocked with food, beverages, and supplies, managing inventory levels and ordering products as needed.
- Manage and schedule canteen staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and training.
- Handle cash register, cash handling, and ensure accurate daily financial reporting.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, ensuring all areas meet health and safety regulations.
- Act as Building Manager for the Canteen
- Customer Service:
- Provide exceptional service to veterans, their families, and guests.
- Address any complaints or concerns promptly and professionally. Manger will keep a canteen incident logbook and ensure employees document any incidents during their shift.
- Foster a welcoming environment and create a positive atmosphere for all VFW members and their guests.
- Event Coordination:
- Assist in the planning and execution of events and activities within the canteen space.
- Work with the VFW leadership to promote special events, themed nights, and fundraising initiatives.
- Coordinate with vendors, entertainers, and other external parties to ensure successful events.
- Staff Supervision:
a. Supervise and train canteen staff, ensuring they understand their roles and provide exceptional service. Shall fill in for absent or excused bartenders and serve during expected high demand events. The Manager will make weekly and monthly bartender schedules and operating hours.
- Ensure staff complies with VFW policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform regular performance reviews and provide ongoing support and guidance. Employee reviews will be conducted annually. Managers will maintain annual reviews in employee files. Reviews will be provided to the House Chair and/or Post Commander upon request.
d. Shall answer to the House Committee, attend all House Committee meetings, and provide a monthly report of sales, inventory, and canteen incidents, and report any employee problems to the House Committee members.
- Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Maintain accurate records of daily transactions and expenses.
- Assist with budget planning and manage the canteen's financial performance by working closely with the Post Quartermaster.
- Monitor and control costs to ensure the canteen operates within budget.
- Be responsible for ordering all inventory and supplies required for operations.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure all health, safety, and sanitation regulations are strictly followed.
b. Comply with local, state, and federal laws regarding food service and alcohol sales (if applicable). The Canteen Manager shall have a current New Mexico Alcohol Server’s license and food service handler’s certificate.
c. Adhere to the Code of Ethics for VFW Posts pertaining to personal conduct and professional integrity at all times. He/She will sign the document acknowledging such.
d. Will be bonded according to the Bond regulations.
7. After a ninety (90) day probationary period of employment, the House Committee will reevaluate the job performance of the Canteen Manager.
