Job Summary:
Inspector II is a mid-level field inspection role responsible for monitoring telecommunications construction projects to ensure compliance with the project schedule, engineering specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Inspector II supports both project managers and junior inspectors, providing technical guidance, quality assurance, and progress reporting.
*This position will be located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Remote work is not an option for this role as it will require field work and daily site visits to project sites*
What You Get to Do (Duties/Responsibilities):
Field Inspection & Quality Control
- Conduct subcontractor inspections of FTTH fiber optic infrastructure construction sites.
- Ensure compliance with engineering plans, project specifications, and safety regulations related to traffic control, installation and restoration.
- Identify construction defects, deviations, or potential safety issues, and coordinate resolution with field crews and project management.
- Create as-built documentation, punch lists, and accurate field records.
Coordination & Communication
- Serve as a primary contact for junior inspectors (Inspector I), mentoring and guiding their inspection activities.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly to project managers, engineers, and contractors.
- Assist in scheduling inspections and coordinating with construction teams to minimize delays.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate logs, photographs, and reports of inspections and project progress.
- Track project compliance with permits, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
- Provide recommendations for corrective actions and continuous improvement in field operations.
Support Project Management
- Collaborate with managers and engineers to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
- Assist in evaluating contractor performance and adherence to contractual obligations.
- Participate in pre-construction and post-construction review meetings.
What We Are Searching For (Required Skills/Abilities):
· Solid understanding of telecommunication OSP (outside plant) network construction, permitting processes, and safety regulations.
· Understanding of engineering drawings and industry standards.
· Knowledge of aerial construction, directional drilling, micro-trenching, fiber cable installation, splicing, testing, FTTH construction and traffic control.
· Act as a liaison between landowners, permitting agencies, internal teams (design, project management), and subcontractors.
· Experience mentoring or guiding junior staff preferred.
· Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, reporting tools, or project management software.
Education/Certifications/Experience:
· High school diploma required; technical certificate, associate degree, or relevant training preferred.
· 3–6 years of field inspection experience, preferably in broadband, telecom, utilities, or construction.
Work Environment & Expectations:
· Fieldwork required, exposure to construction sites, vehicles, and varying weather conditions.
· Expected to follow all safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
· Reports findings and progress regularly to Senior Project Managers, Area Construction Manager, and Engineering Manager as needed or required.
· Serves as a role model for junior inspectors, promoting professionalism, safety, and quality standards in the field.
What’s In It for You?
Base Pay: $55K-$75K
Supplemental Pay: Bonus pay 10% annually.

Additional Details:
· Fieldwork required; exposure to construction sites, vehicles, and varying weather conditions.
· At a minimum, background checks, education verification, employment verification, and drug screens will be conducted upon hire. Your suitability for employment is contingent upon successfully passing these required pre-employment screenings.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
