PRN Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) - Senior Living | Dementia Care Specialist
Are you the SLP who sees the person, not just the diagnosis?
We're looking for an exceptional Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who is passionate about helping older adults living with dementia preserve communication, cognition, swallowing function, and quality of life.
This isn't a traditional therapy position focused solely on standardized assessments and treatment protocols. We're building a therapy program centered on meaningful engagement, person-centered dementia care, and helping residents maintain independence for as long as possible.
You will work alongside a collaborative interdisciplinary team to provide evidence-based speech therapy services that support communication, cognitive function, safe swallowing, and meaningful participation in daily life.
What You'll Do
- Evaluate and treat residents living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
- Develop individualized treatment plans focused on communication, cognition, swallowing, and functional participation.
- Incorporate evidence-based cognitive-communication strategies, environmental modifications, caregiver education, and compensatory techniques into treatment.
- Assess and manage dysphagia while promoting safe, enjoyable eating experiences whenever appropriate.
- Determine appropriate treatment frequency and duration based on each resident's skilled therapy needs.
- Collaborate with PT, OT, nursing, and caregivers to develop interdisciplinary care plans.
- Help residents maintain meaningful communication, social participation, and independence throughout the progression of their disease.
- Complete timely, accurate documentation while maintaining exceptional clinical quality.

- Understands dementia beyond memory loss and appreciates the importance of preserving communication, identity, relationships, and quality of life.
- Is skilled at engaging residents who may be withdrawn, resistant, or behaviorally complex.
- Thinks creatively and adapts interventions to each individual's cognitive and communication abilities.
- Has experience evaluating and treating cognitive-communication disorders and dysphagia.
- Values teamwork and enjoys collaborating across therapy disciplines.
- Takes pride in delivering exceptional, evidence-based care.
- Is dependable, compassionate, and accountable.
Qualifications
- Current Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) license.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred. Strong CF candidates with a passion for geriatrics may also be considered.
- Experience in senior living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or geriatrics preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dementia care best practices strongly preferred.
- Experience with cognitive-communication therapy, dysphagia management, and caregiver education is highly valued.
