Student Support Specialist
Reports to: School Principal & Director of Health and Wellness.
Purpose: The primary mission of the Student Support Specialist is to provide services to at-risk and behaviorally challenged students and their families in the Rowan-Salisbury School System.
Qualifications:

North Carolina license in school counseling or school social work

Counseling Degree Requirements:
-
A Counselor’s degree
-
Completion of an approved program in school counseling at the master’s level or above

Completion of Praxis (School Guidance and Counseling)

School Social Work Requirements:
-
A School social worker’s license
-
Completion of an approved program in school social work at the bachelor’s level or above
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Provide the individual and group counseling to students who have been identified by teachers, counselors or administrators as at risk.

Intervene with parents of at-risk youth by providing information, counseling or referral.

Act as a liaison between the Rowan-Salisbury School System, counseling/treatment resources and related outside agencies.

Evaluate and monitor behavioral changes and outcomes.

Coordinate school health services for pregnant students and/or parenting students.

Conduct classroom sessions on topics including, but not limited to, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, violence prevention, coping skills, decision making, problem solving, dealing with grief, self-esteem, character development and school success.

Involved with student assistance team meetings to facilitate identification an intervention with at-risk students.

Available to training for interested faculty/staff on topics including, but not limited to, adolescent substance abuse, teen pregnancy, violence prevention, grief counseling, children of dysfunctional families, adolescent development, behavior management, medication, and character development.

Consult and work collaboratively with the Student Services Director, other Intervention Specialist and student assistance counselors.

Attend system level, faculty, building level, departmental, and intervention meetings related to at risk students.

Submit records, reports and assignments promptly and efficiently.

Perform other duties related to at risk students.
Term of Employment: 10 months employment
