Lead Dermatology Medical Assistant
A busy dermatology office is seeking a full-time, experienced Lead Back Office Medical Assistant to support our providers and clinical team with daily patient care operations. This role serves as the first point of contact for providers and staff in troubleshooting back-office operations and oversees the smooth running of the clinical area.
Key Responsibilities
The Lead MA oversees back-office operations and assists with provider and support staff scheduling. Clinical duties include rooming patients, assisting the Physician or PA with biopsies, excisions, acne surgery, and Mohs surgery, handling biopsy specimens, processing prescription refills, and stocking exam rooms. This role also provides training for new medical assistants and externship students, leads daily huddles, and communicates new clinical processes to the team.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining optimal levels of medical and office supplies, performing weekly medication audits and monthly clinic audits, reviewing chart documentation daily for accuracy, and ensuring exam rooms are clean and fully stocked. The Lead MA acts as a liaison between administration and clinical staff, monitors customer service, and ensures compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA regulations, including proper disposal of contaminated materials and adherence to the Exposure Control Plan.
Minimum Qualifications
Dermatology experience is required — please do not apply without derm experience. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred, along with a current Basic Life Support card and at least one year of work experience. Candidates must be reliable, organized, motivated, and able to multitask while working well under pressure. Strong customer service skills and effective written and verbal communication are essential.
