JOB
This is sub professional nutritionist work involving federally and non-federally funded foods and nutrition program providing services to individual and families.
An employee in this position provides support to the Elderly Nutrition Program under the guidance and supervision of the Program Supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assists in the documentation of nutrition education activities.
Assists in the duplication of educational literature.
Assists in conducting surveys.
Assists in data collection and other duties as assigned.
Contacts clients by phone to inform them of upcoming events or activities.
Delivers meals to homebound clients.
Maintains records of money collected, issues receipts, and makes banks deposits.
Maintains records of referrals, contact log, and attendance records.
Monitors congregate centers and meal preparation site.
Attends in-service training.
Performs other related duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FACTOR 1 – Knowledge REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Basic knowledge of nutrition, food sanitation, food preparation and shopping skills.
Knowledge of inventory / inventory control.
Knowledge of maintaining cash receipt ledger and making bank deposits.
Ability to communicate well, orally and in writing.
Ability to gather data from clients and the application of confidentiality.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff.
Ability to deal with clients in a tactful, patient and caring manner.
FACTOR 2 - SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Work is performed under the direction of the Program Supervisor. Assignments are given by the Program Supervisor. The Departmental Nutritionist reviews the adherence to establish standards, policies and procedures.
FACTOR 3 - GUIDELINES
Specific rules, regulations and procedures are established for the effective completion of various activities. Most of these rules require little interpretation.
FACTOR 4 COMPLEXITY
The assignment involves a wide range of duties relative to data collection, delivery of meals to clients, monitoring congregate and meal preparation sites, and securing funds collected by the Elderly Nutrition Program. Food sanitation, food procurement, preparation, safety, and the importance of physical activity are all within the general scope of responsibility. The employee gets the data from the clients being serviced to determine their nutritional needs and demands. The employee transfers all data for fulfillment.
FACTOR 5 - SCOPE AND EFFECTS
The purpose of the work is to assist in the delivery of meals to the homebound, in data collection, collation, receipt, documentation and security of funds collected for the program. The work ensures that the program is fulfilling its objective of providing nutritional meals for the needy.
FACTOR 6 - PERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are with staff, supervisors, individuals within the agency, clients and potential clients of the Elderly Nutrition Program, other agencies and the general public.
FACTOR 7 - PURPOSE OF CONTACT
Contacts are to assist in providing information to clients and their families. To gather information relative to conducting surveys.
FACTOR 8 - PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires considerable walking and standing, climbing stairs and walking up and own hills; packing and lifting of food caddies and other food related items. Outreach activities are also included such as conducting home visits to conduct initial assessments.
FACTOR 9 - WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in the office and in the field.
