Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Mental Health Counselor to provide comprehensive mental health services to diverse populations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management, with the ability to deliver individual and group counseling in various settings, including outpatient clinics, inpatient facilities, and via telehealth. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on clients’ lives through evidence-based practices and personalized care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and diagnostic evaluations utilizing ICD-9, ICD-10, and relevant medical terminology.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
- Provide individual, group, family, and child counseling tailored to specific needs such as PTSD care, grief counseling, addiction counseling.
- Utilize crisis management skills to intervene effectively during mental health emergencies and coordinate appropriate support or hospitalization when necessary.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, medical professionals, educators, and case managers to ensure holistic patient care.
- Engage in clinical research and data collection to support ongoing program development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Offer telehealth services utilizing best practices for remote mental health care delivery.
- Stay current with mental health trends, ICD coding updates, CPT coding, and relevant legal requirements such as HIPAA compliance.
Skills
- Proven experience in psychotherapy techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, grief counseling, addiction counseling, and behavior management.
- Strong crisis intervention skills with the ability to manage acute psychiatric episodes effectively.
- Expertise in working with children, adolescents, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities and diverse populations requiring specialized support
- Familiarity with medical documentation standards and medical terminology related to behavioral health.
- Excellent communication skills for intake assessments, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Experience with telehealth platforms and delivering remote mental health services effectively.
- Knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 coding for accurate diagnosis documentation.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy while maintaining professional boundaries in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
