FEAST Detroit Job Description: QC Lead
Position Type: Full-Time / Exempt
Reports To: Production Manager
Job Summary
The QC Lead ensures the facility meets all food safety (or industry-specific) regulations and cleanliness standards. This role splits time between technical quality control testing and verifying sanitation practices to prevent product contamination.
Core Responsibilities
Product Quality Control: Perform routine quality checks alongside Production Manager (“Golden Case” and Label Verification) and document results. Responsible for releasing product to Filling Line and completing pH logs. Maintain Retention Sample Program.
Facility Start-Up Inspections: Perform routine inspections of metal blades, brittle plastics, equipment calibrations, and equipment operations (machinery, refrigerators, etc.).
Sanitation Oversight: Verify against Master Sanitation Schedule; ensure all equipment is disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled according to SOPs.
Allergen Protocol: Execute the Allergen Swab protocol as needed between products to ensure cleaning was effective for allergen protein removal to prevent cross-contact.
Hold Procedures: Identify out-of-spec products or ingredients and manage the "Hold" and "Release" process under guidance of the Production Manager.
Chemical Safety: Manage the inventory and safe handling of cleaning chemicals and sanitizers.
Continuous Improvement: Identifies areas of improvement within the scope of job duties and provides a “solution-first” mindset to achieve desired outcome.
Performs additional duties as needed by Production Manager to support daily operational excellence.
Pay Range: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Requirements:

Experience in Quality Control, Food Safety, or industrial sanitation.

Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and HACCP standards.

Strong record-keeping skills and attention to technical details.

Fluent in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
