Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant to join our dynamic educational team. Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers with daily instructional activities, including literacy, math, and social-emotional learning.
- Provide physical assistance and behavioral support for students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral disorders.
- Support students with individualized education programs (IEPs) by implementing tailored strategies to meet their specific needs.
- Help manage classroom behavior through positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques aligned with best practices and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods to facilitate effective communication with students who have communication challenges.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to develop and execute student support plans.
- Assist with classroom organization, materials preparation, and maintaining a safe, clean learning environment.
- Provide basic childcare and toddler care when necessary, supporting early childhood development principles such as Montessori or other age-appropriate methodologies.
- Support literacy education, basic math instruction, and classroom activities that promote childhood development.
- Handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children or students with disabilities in educational or childcare settings is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of special education practices, including classroom support in special education environments.
- Familiarity with autism spectrum disorders support strategies and behavior management techniques for students with developmental disabilities.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism is a strong plus.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and engage students.
- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly while maintaining professionalism.
- Basic understanding of childhood development principles and early childhood education methods such as Montessori or preschool curricula.
- Demonstrated classroom management skills to create a positive learning atmosphere.
- Ability to provide physical assistance for students requiring mobility or behavioral support.
- Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and IEP processes is advantageous.
