Pay Rate: $50.04–$55.04/hour (determined by experience, paid weekly)

Shift Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday (Must be willing to travel up to 80% and work nights and weekends as project demands require.)

Role Overview
BEPC is actively seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support our customer's engineering team in Mason, Ohio. This role is ideal for an automation professional who is passionate about industrial control systems and enjoys leading complex automation projects from concept through commissioning.
As a Controls Engineer, you will serve as the primary owner of PLC and electrical control systems for assigned material handling automation projects. You'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams, mentor fellow engineers, and work directly with customers to deliver innovative automated solutions.
This position requires extensive domestic travel (up to 80%) to customer sites for system commissioning and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor Controls Engineers throughout project execution.
- Design, engineer, and execute automated control system projects from concept through startup.
- Develop system Descriptions of Operation (DOO), test plans, and user documentation.
- Interface directly with customers throughout project execution.
- Design electrical control systems and specify components including PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and other electrical devices.
- Design PLC and VFD control panels using AutoCAD Electrical (ICAD).
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC software using Allen-Bradley Studio 5000.
- Integrate barcode reading and automated material handling technologies.
- Develop commissioning plans and perform system startup at customer sites.
- Participate in project turnover meetings, design reviews, and engineering team meetings.
- Review project schedules and identify risks or required adjustments.
- Track project issues and communicate progress to management.
- Perform PLC code reviews and software quality checks.
- Complete in-house testing, system emulation, and field commissioning.
- Provide daily site reports documenting progress, issues, and next steps.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within scope.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 5–7+ years of PLC programming and industrial automation experience.
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000.
- AutoCAD Electrical experience.
- Experience designing PLC and electrical control systems.
- Knowledge of UL, NEC, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Experience with industrial Fieldbus networks (Profibus, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, etc.).
- Experience with safety control systems.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Office 365).
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel up to 80% throughout the United States.
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends as project schedules require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Schneider/Modicon PLC experience.
- Experience with automated material handling systems.
- Experience commissioning industrial automation systems.
- Ability to travel to Canada or Mexico when needed.
