Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Screed Operator to join our paving crew. The Screed Operator is responsible for operating and controlling the screed on an asphalt paver to ensure the proper depth, width, and smoothness of asphalt placement. The ideal candidate has experience with commercial, municipal, and highway paving projects and is committed to producing high-quality work while maintaining a safe job site.
Responsibilities
- Operate the screed on an asphalt paver to achieve the proper grade, slope, and mat thickness.
- Set and adjust screed controls for width, depth, and crown.
- Monitor asphalt flow and make adjustments to ensure a smooth, uniform surface.
- Work closely with the paver operator, roller operators, and ground crew to maintain production.
- Perform pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment.
- Assist with routine maintenance and cleaning of paving equipment.
- Read project plans, grades, and specifications.
- Ensure paving work meets quality standards and project tolerances.
- Follow all OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
- Assist with other paving duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating an asphalt paver screed (commercial or highway paving preferred).
- Strong knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and grade control.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAT, Volvo, Roadtec, or Weiler paving equipment.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with DOT, municipal, or commercial paving project.
