Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of dental and oral surgical procedures, with a strong focus on patient care, safety, and clinical support. As a Surgical Assistant, you will play a vital role in preparing treatment areas, assisting during surgeries, and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies, and sterilization procedures to ensure readiness for surgical procedures.
- Assist the dentist or oral surgeon during various procedures including oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners to obtain accurate diagnostic images while following radiation safety protocols.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Dentrix or Epic, ensuring accurate documentation of medical and dental histories.
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies in accordance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy at all times.
- Perform dental instrument processing and sterilization in compliance with infection prevention management standards.
- Monitor vital signs and medical documentation during procedures to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Support dental reception activities by managing appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out, and answering patient inquiries professionally.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines.
- Assist with dental x-ray procedures, ensuring proper technique and safety measures are followed for both patients and staff.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic or healthcare setting with exposure to general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, and prosthodontics is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and dental instrument handling.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to oral health care.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Experience with infection prevention protocols including sterilization procedures and healthcare infection control practices.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners accurately and safely.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA compliance policies related to patient confidentiality and data security.
- Certification or training in medical coding is advantageous but not mandatory; relevant certifications in dental assisting or healthcare are preferred.
