Position Summary:
The Financial Counselor will play a crucial role in assisting patients and families in understanding their healthcare options, navigating financial concerns, and ensuring access to necessary medical services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate self-pay collection activity and referrals on uninsured and underinsured patients to eligibility agency
- Work with BOOS program
- Responsible for communicating with collection agencies and monitoring collection status of accounts via computer and informs patients and/or their representatives of delinquent accounts in order to collect payment, using direct phone contact and/or mail
- Visit all in-house private pay patients to determine all options of payment. Obtain required signatures for admission if needed. Keep a weekly record of all private pay accounts.
- Refers patient account to Advanced Patient Advocacy. Completes initial steps regarding charity applications.
- Assist with walk-in customers concerns. Ability to resolve the customer concerns regarding the patient accounting process.
- Review weekly private pay accounts for Financial Assistance. Weekly mail Financial Assistance applications to private pay patients. Process all FAA applications within 7 days of receipt. Analyze for approval/denial of application and advise of results. Accounts approved for Financial Assistance will be written off.
- Review charge off report weekly to write off to Bad Debt. Monitor record keeping of all accounts written off.
- Relief Cashier as needed
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience in insurance, cashiering, money management, accounts receivable experience preferred.
- Proficiency in using electronic billing systems and healthcare software (e.g., Meditech).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to reconcile complex payment discrepancies.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of healthcare compliance regulations and HIPAA guidelines.
