Job Overview: The Town of Apache is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Water Works/Groundskeeper/General Maintenance. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks, including performing meter and well readings, water line repairs, groundskeeping, and general maintenance of town properties. The role also involves assisting with street, alley, cemetery, and town building maintenance, as well as animal control duties when needed. Key Responsibilities:
Water/Wastewater Department Duties:
- If not already certified, prepare for and pass required ODEQ testing for Class D Licensing.
- Make water service connections and repair water leaks.
- Install and repair water meters, and report new meter readings and numbers to the Utility Clerk.
- Read water meters and record data prior to the 20th of each month.
- Operate water systems, including performing general maintenance on water and sewer systems.
- Install water mains and maintain sewer mains and manholes.
- Operate backhoe proficiently and take and prepare monthly water samples, keeping a record of results.
- Check water wells daily, report any issues to the superintendent, and assist in maintaining sewer pump stations.
- Mow, weed, trim, and spray lagoons and well houses.
- Maintain town equipment, including cleaning, greasing, oiling, and minor repairs.
- Follow all Department of Environmental Quality State Laws and Town Ordinances.
- Assist other departments with various tasks as needed.
Street/Alley/Cemetery Department Duties:
- Operate mowers, weed-trimmers, chainsaws, backhoes, tractors, brush-hogs, excavators, dump trucks, and other equipment as required.
- Repair and replace street signs, install and repair culverts and storm drains.
- Lay asphalt, perform street maintenance, and fill potholes.
- Maintain the cemetery by mowing, trimming, spraying, and cleaning up debris.
- Assist with opening and closing cemetery plots as needed for funerals and maintaining beautification at the cemetery.
- Maintain town parks, playgrounds, ballfields, splashpads, streets, and alleyways.
- Assist other department employees with various tasks upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Physical capability to perform labor-intensive outdoor work.
- Experience with groundskeeping and operating related machinery (zero-turn mowers, edgers, excavators) preferred.
- DEQ Water/Wastewater Certification is a plus (must be willing to pursue certification).
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Awareness of all safety standards when performing duties.
- Ability to perform manual and physical labor.

Working Conditions:
- Working conditions include operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems and street department duties in all types of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, dry, wet, muddy, and dirty areas such as sewer pump stations and manholes.
- May require working after dark, on weekends, or holidays to assist in an emergency.

Work Hours:
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required.
