One Pathfinder teacher from each participating high school will serve as a school-based GEAR UP leader and work closely with the Local Coordinator to support implementation of district-wide GEAR UP initiatives. Pathfinders will meet monthly with the Local Coordinator to coordinate activities across schools, strengthen communication between school staff and the district program, promote student participation, identify student needs, and assist with school-level planning. Pathfinders will support National GEAR UP Week activities, family engagement events, college visits, GEAR UP Leadership Council meetings, and Career & College Club implementation. Through ongoing collaboration with the Local Coordinator, Pathfinders will help ensure consistent delivery of GEAR UP services and opportunities across all participating schools. Stipends support the additional responsibilities associated with serving as a Pathfinder.
Duties:
Duties:
1. Develop and implement district-wide program for high school students focused on preparing them for post-secondary education.
2. Collaborate with GEAR Up collegues in the county to develop, deliver, and provide the services needed to increase the college completion of Raleigh County students.
3. Collaborate with administrators from West Virginia colleges and universities to provide college visits, tours, and events for participating high school students.
4. Work collaboratively with other Pathfinders and the Coordinator to ensure successful implementation and ongoing development of program.
5. Attend meetings focused on the continued development and implementation of the program.
6. Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, School Principal, and/or designee.
$500 STIPEND PER SEMESTER
MAXIMUM 75 HOURS
Certification and Experience:
1. Holds a valid WV certificate endorsed for school counseling or any content area grades 9-12.
2. Previous experience with College Summit or similar programs preferred.
3. Preference given to teachers/counselors serving students in the assigned high school.
