Job Overview
We’re seeking a skilled and safety conscious Excavation Operator to support our plumbing service operations in the Detroit, MI area. This role is responsible for performing residential and light commercial excavation work, trenching, and site preparation related to plumbing installations and repairs. The ideal candidate brings both heavy equipment operating experience and some plumbing background, with a strong focus on quality, teamwork, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate excavation equipment such as mini-excavators, backhoes, and skid steers safely and efficiently.
- Excavate trenches and access points for plumbing repairs, sewer line replacements, and water service installations.
- Assist plumbers in setting grades, identifying utility locations, and preparing job sites.
- Maintain all safety standards and follow company policies and OSHA regulations.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance (fluids, filters, etc.).
- Ensure job sites are clean, secure, and restored appropriately after work completion.
- Collaborate closely with plumbers and the CSR team to meet schedule and quality expectations.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and customers regarding site conditions and project updates.
Qualifications:
- Experienced in excavation and utility identification practices, with the ability to safely uncover and access underground water, gas, and electrical lines
- Excavation or heavy equipment operating experience required.
- Plumbing experience or familiarity with underground plumbing systems strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for insurance purposes.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round and perform physical labor when required.
- Strong understanding of job-site safety; committed to a safety conscious culture.
- Drug test, background check, and reference verification required prior to hire.
Schedule:
- Full-time, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Some overtime or schedule flexibility may be required to meet job deadlines.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Commission-based pay — expected annual earnings between $80,000 and $100,000, depending on plumbing expertise and productivity.
