Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, performs the primary function of a Student Nurse Technician in assessing, planning, implementing, educating, prioritization, delegation and evaluating a designated group of patients in accordance with all established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Is responsible for managing all assigned personal supplies, equipment on the unit, and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. This role will prepare the student nurse technician to become a safe provider of care as a future nurse generalist.
Principal Accountabilities in collaboration with RN:

Collaborates with all care to team members, students, PCT's, and UA's.

Acts as a patient liaison and advocate.

Assures proper documentation.

Performs general, non-licensed respiratory procedures:

oximetry spot checks

simple oxygen set-ups, tank exchange

Assist patients with mobility needs:

Transfers

turning and repositioning in bed

maintaining a clean and safe room environment

assisting patient to bathroom

transporting to tests or other hospital locations

Makes continuous patient assessment:

Performs and communicates the preliminary interpretation of 12 lead EKG’s to RN

Performs procedures related to specimen collection, reporting abnormal values to RN
-
Makes patient rounds, using ICARE model.

Manages patient’s in-house transfer through system.

Assesses ADL’s
-
Participates in administration of treatments between disciplines.
-
Coordinates with RN all aspects of patient care, including planning, intervention, education, and valuation:
-
Develops, maintains, and applies age-specific knowledge relevant to the care of the patient population served.

Performs IV insertions, troubleshooting and maintenance with with direct supervision by RN.
-
Performs phlebotomy.
-
Performs staple removal with with direct supervision by RN.
-
Performs drain removal with with direct supervision by RN. (Unit specific)
-
changing dressing (sterile and nonsterile) with direct supervision by RN.
-
Participates in Code Blue/RRT team response.
-
Provides patient education.
-
Performs other patient care activities to include, but not limited to:

bed making (unoccupied and occupied)

Foley care and emptying and recording output from Foley catheters

This position is a non-licensed/certified staff member authorized to transport and/or stock medications to meet specified essential job duties.
Capable of working to prescribed Hospital Policies and Nursing Standards.
The patient care provided will take into consideration the specific age-related needs of the patient. Nursing divisions may provide patient care to neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.
Employee is required to walk continuously and sit occasionally. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) load occasionally and heavy (50lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Verbal and cognitive ability, as well as motor coordination and manual dexterity are required. Speech, hearing, and near-visual acuity are required. May be needed to work any shift due to 24-hour day, 7 days per week operation. May be required to work on other patient care units as needed. Employee is frequently exposed to blood borne pathogens.

Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
Currently enrolled in accredited nursing program who will have or will complete fundamentals course within 90 days of hire.
