Position Summary
The Global Transportation and Trade Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing international and domestic transportation while ensuring full compliance with global trade regulations. This role leads transportation strategy, manages carrier relationships, and ensures adherence to import/export laws, customs requirements, and regulatory standards across all regions.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Logistics Management
- Develop and execute global transportation strategies to optimize cost, service, and efficiency
- Manage relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs)
- Oversee inbound and outbound shipments across air, ocean, and ground transport
- Monitor logistics KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Resolve transportation disruptions and implement contingency plans
Trade Compliance
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, including import/export laws and customs requirements
- Manage classification (HTS), valuation, country of origin, and documentation processes
- Maintain compliance with government agencies (e.g., customs authorities, export control bodies)
- Oversee denied party screening, sanctions compliance, and export licensing
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments related to trade compliance
Policy & Process Development
- Develop and maintain global trade compliance policies and standard operating procedures
- Stay current with changing regulations and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders
- Implement systems and tools to support compliance and logistics visibility
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with supply chain, procurement, legal, finance, and operations teams
- Support global expansion initiatives and new market entry compliance requirements
- Provide training and guidance on trade compliance and logistics best practices
Leadership & Reporting
- Oversee 1 direct report
- Report on transportation costs, compliance metrics, and risk exposure to senior leadership
- Manage budgets related to freight and compliance operations
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
- 5–10+ years of experience in global logistics and trade compliance
- Strong knowledge of import/export regulations, customs procedures, and Incoterms
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Preferred
- Professional certifications (e.g., Customs Broker License, CCS, CTPAT knowledge)
- Experience in a multinational or global organization
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
- Advanced knowledge of duty optimization programs (e.g., FTAs, duty drawback)
